The clock is circling and circling closer to the day that the iii Points Music Festival arrives once more. Known as one of the most anticipated and wildly entertaining festivals in the United States, iii Points has upped the ante by bringing in a colossal bevy of headliners in Tyler, The Creator, SZA, A$AP Rocky, Erykah Badu, James Blake, Beach House and Herbie Hancock. Of course, to further enhance those musical palates, iii Points has also tapped a great array of choice artists to complement the juggernauts running headlining duties. So, by all odds, your iii Points nights seem completely covered. However, the iii Points Music Festival is an all day affair for 3 whole days — What to do during those earlier and late night hours? – seems to be the question. As such, here are our top 7 acts to watch from this stellar under-card. Enjoy.
7.- Egyptian Lover: An iconic presence of the ’80s L.A. dance scene and a master-mixer of early rap bangers from the same decade, Egyptian Lover has the tools and wisdom to transport his listener to that cool funk of the past in a very modern way.
6.- Ty Segall and White Fence: If you have a wandering mind and want to go on a psychedelic journey of eclectic tunes, then Ty and White Fence might have a dose of what you crave. Easily one of the most experimental acts at iii Points.
5.- JPEGMafia: A wild showman with bars is any hip-hop head’s dream performer. Enter JPEGMafia. If you appreciate the rap genre and untamed stage antics, then Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks is an act you do not want to miss out on.
4.- JAIALAI: A local Miami act with a flair for some psychedelic smoothness for your ear. Jaialai is 4 dudes providing dreamy concoctions and unforgettable memories. Be sure to pay them some mind.
3.- Khruangbin: This trio mixes a blend of worldly tunes to smother the listener. Truth be told, there is no pinpointing an exact genre for Khruangbin — and that’s part of what makes them unique and exciting. From soul, funk, instrumental rock, jazz, and much, much more, Khraungbin will be pleasant surprise to any fan willing to check them out.
2.- Blood Orange: Electronic R&B at its finest. Blood Orange is a suave, interpretation dancing virtuoso with a silky voice. One listen and you will fall in love. Plus, his latest album, Negro Swan, is simply entrancing and piercing.
1.- Raekwon & Ghostface Killah: Performing what many consider to be the greatest mafioso-rap record of all-time, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, is reason enough to drop everything and head to the duo’s set. Additionally, these two Wu-Tang Clan emcees are straight legends. What more convincing do you need?
